San Pablo, California (February 17, 2021) – The driver of a stolen car died after a police chase ended in a crash in San Pablo on Tuesday morning.
According to a report by the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened on San Pablo Avenue near Richmond Parkway at about 8 a.m.
San Pablo police had tried to pull over the driver of a car that had been reported stolen. The suspect failed to yield prompting a short chase that was subsequently canceled due to the unsafe reckless driving of the stolen vehicle.
A short time later, the stolen vehicle collided with another vehicle that was traveling southbound on San Pablo Avenue.
The impact of the collision split the stolen vehicle into two, spreading debris over the roadway.
The suspect, a 25-year old Richmond resident, died at the scene.
A 34-year-old Hayward resident who was driving the second vehicle was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
No additional information about the accident was provided.
The San Pablo Police Department and the California Highway Patrol are investigating the cause of the accident.
