Thousand Oaks, California (February 9, 2021) – Authorities have identified one of the two people who died last week Thursday in a traffic accident in the Newbury Park area of Thousand Oaks as Adrian Sapien, 25, of Ventura.

The deadly accident happened at about 12:10 p.m. Thursday, February 4, in the northbound lanes of Highway 101, just north of Rancho Conejo Boulevard, according to a report by the California Highway Patrol.

Gina Garcia, 58, of Ventura, was driving a 2008 Kia Sorento in the middle lane of northbound Highway 101 when, for unknown reasons, the Kia veered into the fast lane and hit a Chevrolet SUV, the CHP report states. Both vehicles lost control as a result of the collision.

The Kia reportedly swerved back to the slow lane, where it struck a Toyota sedan. The impact of the collision caused the Kia to drift off the roadway and crashed into a tree before it overturned onto its roof about 20 feet off the highway.
