Buellton, California (February 1, 2021) – The authorities have disclosed the identity of a man who was killed in a car crash in Buellton, Santa Barbara County, on Friday evening.

According to a report by the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened at about 7 p.m. January 29, on Highway 101 north of Highway 154.

The authorities said 67-year-old Thomas Vernon Smith was driving a car northbound on Highway 101 when he sideswiped another northbound car.

The impact of the collision sent both cars off the roadway where they crashed into some trees.

The first responders arrived at the scene and performed life-saving measures on the victims. Sadly, Smith died while undergoing treatment.

The other driver, a resident of Oakland, was transported to an area hospital with moderate injuries.
