San Mateo, California (January 15, 2021) – Cesar Barillas Aguilar, 28, of San Mateo, was arrested following a hit-and-run accident that left a bicyclist critically injured on New Year’ Day in San Mateo.

The accident happened at about 9:30 a.m. Friday, January 1, at the intersection of Tilton Avenue and North Humboldt Street.

Authorities said a 68-year-old San Mateo man was riding a bicycle in the area when, for unknown reasons, he was hit by a vehicle at the intersection.

The bicyclist sustained major injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital, where he remains listed in critical condition as of Thursday.

The diver of the vehicle involved, now identified as Aguilar, did not stop to render aid to the victim and fled the scene.

On Wednesday, Aguilar turned himself into police and was booked into San Mateo County jail on charges of felony hit-and-run, causing severe bodily injury and driving without a license.
