Daniel Lopez Jr. ID’d as Man Killed in Camp Pendleton Crash on Interstate 5 near Basilone Road
Camp Pendleton, California (January 7, 2021) – The San Diego Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the man who died in a traffic accident on Christmas Eve in Camp Pendleton as Daniel Lopez Jr., 40.
The deadly crash happened at around 4:59 a.m. Thursday, December 24 on Interstate 5, just south of Basilone Road.
Authorities said a sport utility vehicle, driven by Lopez, was traveling southbound on Interstate 5 when, for unknown reasons, it drifted to the right and rolled down a steep embankment.
The vehicle reportedly came to a rest at the bottom of the embankment, adjacent to a set of train tracks.
Lopez was pronounced dead at the scene.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
