52-Year-Old Taft Man Killed in Boron Pedestrian Crash on Highway 58 near US-395

Boron, California (January 5, 2021) – A 52-year-old man from Taft was hit and killed by a hit-and-run driver on Sunday evening in Boron, authorities said.
The deadly pedestrian accident occurred at about 7:30 p.m., on January 3, on Highway 58, west of US-395.
According to the officials, the man was driving his 2003 GMC SUV with his family on the highway when the vehicle began having mechanical issues, so the driver pulled over to the shoulder.
The 52-year-old man called for a tow truck but was not sure of his exact location, so he got outside his vehicle and walked eastbound on the shoulder of the highway in westbound lanes.
For reasons unknown, he walked into the number 2 lane where he was struck by a truck trailer combination vehicle.

Sadly, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The truck tractor combination vehicle continued driving a short distance then pulled over, just west of the disabled GMC. The driver and a passenger exited the vehicle, evaluated the scene, got back into the vehicle, and drove westbound.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
