Man Killed in Redding Pedestrian Crash on 5 Freeway near Cypress Avenue

Redding, California (December 7, 2020) – A man was killed in a pedestrian accident on Interstate 5 Freeway in Redding on Monday morning.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened on Interstate 5 Freeway near Cypress Avenue at about 5:10 a.m.

Guillermo Campos Jr., 43, of Sacramento, was reportedly driving a Kenworth big rig northbound on I-5 when he struck a pedestrian who was walking along the freeway.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity, however, was not immediately disclosed.

Campos remained at the scene and cooperated with the authorities. He told the police he thought he had hit an animal.

The accident is under investigation.
