Man Killed after Trailer Wheel Strikes Vehicle on Highway 101 in Paso Robles

Paso Robles, California (October 31, 2020) – A passenger died after being struck by a tire that came off a truck in Paso Robles on Thursday on Thursday afternoon.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal incident happened on Highway 101, south of South Spring Street at about 2:20 p.m. October 21.

The authorities said 61-year-old Dean Levonian, of St. Augustine, Florida, was driving a 2008 Ford F-150 truck towing a 2014 Crossroads fifth-wheel trailer southbound on the roadway when a wheel became dislodged from the rear axle of the trailer and rolled across the southbound lanes.

The wheel went across the median guardrail and struck a 2019 Jeep Cherokee driven by Beverly Mays, 81, of San Miguel.

A male front seat passenger in the Jeep suffered major blunt force trauma and died at the scene.

Mays sustained unspecified injuries in the accident.

No additional information about the accident was provided.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
