Riverside, California (October 7, 2020) – One person was killed in a traffic collision that happened near Riverside National Cemetery on Wednesday morning.
The California Highway patrol said the deadly collision happened at the intersection of Meridian Parkway and Van Buren Boulevard at about 7:30 a.m.
A big rig and an SUV are reported to have collided on the highway for unknown reasons. The tractor-trailer jackknifed after the collision.
One of the driver was ejected from a vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Riverside Fire Department paramedics.
The identity of the deceased was not immediately disclosed.
The second driver was injured in the accident and was transported to Riverside Community Hospital for treatment.
The big rig sustained major damage and spilled some of its load onto Van Buren.
The authorities closed a section of Van Buren Boulevard between Opportunity Way and Meridian to facilitate cleanup of the scene.
