Chinatown, California (September 26, 2020) – Christopher David Smith, 34, has been identified as the suspect who was arrested after a hit-and-run pedestrian accident that left a 70-year-old woman seriously injured earlier this month in Chinatown, authorities said.

The crash happened at about 5:00 p.m., Friday, September 4, at North Broadway and College Street.

According to the police, the woman was in the crosswalk when a black Mercedes-Benz C230 struck her.

The car was reportedly turning left onto Broadway from College Street when the accident occurred.

Following the collision, the woman was catapulted into the air and landed on the street, the officials said.

The involved driver, Smith, stopped and got out of the car, then fled the scene without rendering aid to the victim, the police said.

Smith was later arrested on Friday, September 25, at his home in the 900 block of Menlo Avenue, one block east of Vermont Avenue, on suspicion of severely injuring the 70-year-old woman in a hit-and-run crash.

An investigation into the accident is underway.
