Jim De Varennes Killed in Van Nuys Plane Crash near Van Nuys Airport

Van Nuys, California (September 13, 2020) – The authorities have disclosed the identity of a pilot who was killed in a plane crash near Van Nuys Airport on Friday evening.
The deadly crash happened in a parking lot in the 6900 block of North Hayvenhurst Avenue at about 3:04 p.m. September 11.
The authorities said the single-engine Navion B plane had taken off from Van Nuys Airport and was heading for Santa Ynez Airport when it crashed for unknown reasons.
The plane burst into flames and was put out by officials from the LAPD. Three vehicles suffered damage in the crash.
The pilot, who has since been identified as 62-year-old Jim De Varennes of Pacific Palisades, was killed in the crash.
A passenger in the plane, whose identity was not immediately disclosed, was killed in the accident.
No additional information about the incident was provided.
The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the accident.
