Lake County, California (August 18, 2020) – Stephen Collins, 20, of St. Helena, has been identified as one of the two victims who were seriously injured in a head-on crash on Friday afternoon in Lake County, east of Clearlake Oaks.
The crash happened at about 1: 45 p.m., on August 14, on Highway 20 west of Walker Ridge Road.
The California Highway Patrol said a 2014 Chevrolet Volt, driven by Stephen Collins, 20, of St. Helena, was traveling eastbound in the No. 1 lane when, for unknown reasons, it crossed the solid double yellow lines into the westbound lanes.
According to the officials, the Chevrolet Volt collided head-on with an oncoming 2006 Chevrolet 2500 van, driven by Robert Vogler, 48, of Kennewick, Washington. As a result of the collision, Vogler’s Chevrolet overturned, the officials said.

Both Collins and Vogler were airlifted to local hospitals with serious injuries.
All lanes of Highway 20 were blocked for approximately two hours due to the accident.
Intoxication was not suspected of having played a role in the mishap.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
