Hazel Lacy Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash on State Highway 24 in East Bay

East Bay, California (August 18, 2020) – Authorities have identified the toddler who died early Sunday morning in a traffic accident on a rain-soaked highway in East Bay as Hazel Lacy, 2, of Oakland.

The deadly collision happened on State Highway 24, just east of the Gateway Boulevard exit on August 16.

The California Highway Patrol said a 23-year-old Oakland woman was driving a beige Kia sedan eastbound on State Highway 24 when she lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle then rolled over and came to a rest on the dirt shoulder.

Lacy was ejected from the seat as a result of the crash. It was unknown if she was correctly seat-belted in a child safety seat.

Lacy was taken by an ambulance to a hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.

Alcohol or drugs were not considered a factor in the collision.
