Pregnant Woman Killed, Baby in Critical Condition after Anaheim DUI Crash at Katella Avenue and Bayless Street
Anaheim, California (August 11, 2020) – A 23-year-old pregnant woman died after being struck by a suspected drunk driver Tuesday night in Anaheim, according to authorities.
The fatal pedestrian crash happened shortly after 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of Katella Avenue and Bayless Street.
Authorities said a woman was driving her vehicle when she reportedly lost control of the car and drove up on the curb, hitting the pregnant woman, who was walking on the sidewalk.
The woman who was 35 weeks pregnant was taken to a hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. Her baby was delivered by cesarean section and is listed in critical condition.
The driver involved sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment. Authorities suspect the driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the accident.
The crash remains under investigation.
