El Cajon, California (August 11, 2020) – A man has been arrested on suspicion of DUI after he struck a man in a motorized wheelchair at an intersection in El Cajon on Monday night.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened at the intersection of El Cajon Boulevard and West Washington Avenue at about 11:35 p.m. August 10.

The 69-year-old man was riding his motorized wheelchair across El Cajon Boulevard when he was hit by a car. The man was thrown onto the roadway near the center divider.

The unidentified pedestrian was transported to the hospital for treatment of a serious head injury.

Man Arrested on Suspicion of DUI after El Cajon Pedestrian Accident

The motorist remained at the scene of the accident and was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of a controlled substance.

No additional information about the accident was provided.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
