Fresno, California (August 4, 2020) – 19-year-old Autumn Frank has been identified as the seven months pregnant woman who was struck and killed by an alleged hit-and-run driver Sunday night in central Fresno.

The deadly pedestrian accident happened at about 10:30 p.m. on Swift Avenue.

Frank was attempting to cross Marks Avenue at Swift Avenue in an unmarked crosswalk with family members when she was hit by a rented red SUV operated by 32-year-old Kenneth Carter at a high rate of speed.

Officials said Carter did not stop after hitting Frank, but he called the police and turned himself 25 minutes later.

Autum Frank Killed in Fresno Pedestrian Crash

Frank and her unborn baby died at Community Regional Medical Center while undergoing treatment.

Carter told officials that he left the scene because he thought he had hit an animal in the roadway. He was arrested on suspicion of felony hit and run, vehicular manslaughter, and driving on a suspended license

Police said he submitted to a blood test that showed no signs of intoxication. 

Meanwhile, Carter was released Monday on $12,000 bail

An investigation into the crash is underway.
