Fresno County, California (August 2, 2020) – Rochelle Weston, 60, of Vallejo, has been identified as the woman who was killed in a two-vehicle accident that left a 63-year-old passenger injured on Friday afternoon in western Fresno County, authorities said.

At about 3:30 p.m., on July 31, the California Highway Patrol responded to the deadly accident on Highway 198, west of Lassen Avenue.

According to the CHP, a silver Acura was traveling eastbound on the highway at a high rate of speed when it rear-ended a Toyota Camry, driven by Weston.

The force of the impact pushed the Camry to the left side of the road, where it flipped over. The Acura drifted to the right side of the highway, where it smashed into a tree in an orchard, the officials said.

Weston was ejected onto the roadway and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 63-year-old passenger in the Camry sustained major injuries in the accident.

The Acura’s driver fled the scene but was later arrested in Huron about four miles south of the crash scene.

Intoxication was believed to have contributed to the accident. 

The crash remains under investigation.
