Fresno, California (July 29, 2020) – The Fresno County Coroner’s Office has identified the pedestrian who died after being struck by a vehicle late Monday night on a highway in Fresno as Eliodoro Arellano, 37, of Fresno.  

The fatal auto-pedestrian accident happened at about 11:30 p.m. Monday, July 27, in the eastbound lanes of Highway 180 near Clovis Avenue.  

The accident began when authorities were investigating men who were removing parts from a stolen vehicle in the area of Minnewawa and Turner avenues.   

One of the men, now identified as Arellano, ran off toward Highway 180 while police investigated the vehicle. The remaining two men were arrested.  

Arellano reportedly ran through a fence onto the eastbound lanes, where he was hit by an oncoming Nissan Sentra.   

Arellano died at the scene.  

The female driver of the Nissan told the authorities she had no way of avoiding hitting the pedestrian.  It is undetermined whether alcohol or drugs were suspected factors in the collision. 

The accident remains under investigation.
