Drivers Sustain Major Injuries in Santa Cruz Multi-Vehicle Accident on Highway 1 near Harkins Slough
Santa Cruz, California (July 6, 2020) – A traffic collision involving multiple vehicles in the area of Santa Cruz, Friday afternoon, resulted in major injuries.
At about 1:02 p.m. July 3, the California Highway Patrol responded to the major injury crash on Highway 1 south of Harkins Slough.
The accident happened when a big rig hauling a disk harrow stopped suddenly on the shoulder of Highway 1. The disk harrow then broke upon the impact and caught fire.
At the same time, a Chevy Silverado, a Mercedes, and Chevy 2500 were traveling southbound along the highway, a local news source reported.
A Ford Transit van operated by a 28-year-old Watsonville man failed to stop and rear-ended the Mercedes, causing a chain-reaction collision.

All involved victims were attended to by medical personnel who responded at the scene shortly after 1:02 p.m.
Both the Chevrolet Silverado and the Mercedes motorists were confirmed to have sustained major injuries in the mishap.

The CHP is still investigating the cause of the accident.
