Firefighter Injured after Car Crashes into Rialto Fire Station Friday Night

Rialto, California (June 29, 2020) – A Rialto firefighter was injured after a car slammed into the living area of Rialto Fire Department Station 201 Friday night, June 26, authorities said.

The station is located at 131 South Willow Avenue, at the intersection with West Rialto Avenue.

According to Battalion Chief Cory Cisneros, the driver of the car, who appeared to be 19, was east on Rialto Avenue and drove straight through the intersection and into the building.

Cisneros said the firefighter was sitting about 3 feet from where the front quarter of the car went into the building. The vehicle almost struck the firefighter and left a stew of smashed furniture, broken glass and vehicle fluid as it reversed out of the building.

The 15-year-old veteran firefighter was taken to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton with minor injuries. He is expected to stay out of job for two weeks as he recovers.

The driver of the car was also hospitalized with minor injuries.

According to Cisneros, this is the third time the station has been hit this way. He said discussions are ongoing about placing a barrier in front of the station to prevent more crashes.
