Nancy Segoviano Killed in Downey Car Crash on 5 Freeway near Lakewood Boulevard
Downey, California (June 20, 2020) – The authorities have disclosed the identity of a Good Samaritan who died after being struck by a vehicle while assisting a motorist in Downey on Thursday night.
The accident happened at about 11:20 p.m. June 18, on Interstate 5 Freeway near Lakewood Boulevard.
The California Highway Patrol said a Mitsubishi Lancer was traveling on the roadway when it crashed into the center median after being cut off by a gray Chevrolet.
A Honda Pilot driven by 47-year-old Bruno Rodriquez, of Anaheim, stopped at the scene. Rodriguez and his passenger, 36-year-old Nancy Segoviano, walked to the disabled vehicle to offer assistance to the motorist.
Good Samaritan Hit and Killed while Helping Motorist on I-5 in Downey
The police said a 2015 Ford Mustang driven by an 18-year-old driver swerved to avoid the stalled vehicle but struck Segoviano and Rodriguez’s right hand before crashing into the Honda.
Segoviano, Rodriguez and three juvenile passengers in the Honda, ages 10, 12 and 14, were taken to the hospital.
Sadly, Segoviano died while undergoing treatment.
The driver of the Mustang and his three passengers sustained minor injuries in the accident.
No additional information was provided.
An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
