Michael Culligan ID’d as Suspect Arrested after Fatal Lompoc Car Accident on Santa Lucia Canyon Road and Victory Road

Lompoc, California (June 16, 2020) – One person was killed and another was seriously injured in a head-on car crash on Tuesday afternoon in Lompoc, according to authorities.
The deadly crash happened at about 12:22 p.m. on Santa Lucia Canyon Road and Victory Road, between Lompoc Federal Prison and Vandenberg Air Force Base.
As per the CHP report, a Jeep, driven by Michael Culligan, 29, of Lompoc, drifted into the pathway of an oncoming Lexus sedan causing the two vehicles to collide head-on on the roadway.

The Lexus driver, a 35-year-old man from Santa Maria, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A passenger in the Lexus, a 37-year-old woman also from Santa Maria, sustained major injuries and was flown to a hospital for treatment.
Culligan fled the scene following the accident. Three hours later, Culligan was arrested about 1.5 miles from the crash site.
Drugs or alcohol were suspected of having played a role in the accident.
Traffic on Santa Lucia Canyon Road from Lompoc gate to Vandenberg Air Force Base was stopped for an unknown period due to the mishap.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
