Bakersfield, California (June 16, 2020) – Jose Toro, 26, of McFarland, has been identified as the person who was arrested following an alleged DUI crash that killed a 21-year-old man and left one other injured on Sunday morning in Bakersfield, according to police.

The California Highway Patrol responded to the deadly crash at about 2:20 a.m., on June 14, on Bena Road at Neumarkel Road.

A 2016 BMW, driven by Toro, was traveling westbound on Bena Road towards Neumarkel Road when it collided head-on with a 2003 Subaru WRX driven by a 21-year-old man, the CHP said.

Toro failed to maintain his lane and drifted into the pathway of oncoming traffic, causing the accident. The Subaru was reportedly heading eastbound on Bena Road at the time of the accident.

The Subaru driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 19-year-old passenger sustained minor injuries and was taken to Kern Medical Center for treatment.

Toro was also transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

Toro who was suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and was arrested after he was medically cleared.

An investigation into the accident is underway.
