Inyo County, California (June 14, 2020) – Authorities have identified James Bennett, of Oxnard, as the motorcyclist who was seriously injured in a Friday afternoon traffic crash in Independence, Inyo County.

The crash occurred at about 1:03 p.m., on June 12, on Highway 395 near Fort Independence Road.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a semi-truck was making a U-turn to southbound Highway 395 across the northbound lanes when, for unknown reasons, it struck a Harley-Davidson motorcycle, operated by Bennett.

Bennett was riding north on Highway 395 in the No. 1 lane, approaching the tractor-trailer at the time of the accident.

Medical personnel responded to the scene and rendered aid to Bennett, who sustained serious injuries from the accident. He was taken to Southern Inyo Hospital for treatment.

The authorities did not confirm if Justin Verzani, of Ponca, Nebraska, the truck driver, was injured in the mishap.

The accident remains under investigation.
