8 Injured, 2 Drivers Seriously, in Bakersfield Car Accident on Weedpatch Highway near Bengston Avenue
Bakersfield, California (June 8, 2020) – Eight people were injured Sunday night in a traffic accident in Bakersfield, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash took place at about 8:40 p.m. Sunday, June 7, on Weedpatch Highway near Bengston Avenue, the CHP said.
According to the CHP, a Subaru was heading northbound on Weedpatch Highway when the driver drifted across double yellow lines to try to pass by traffic in opposing lanes.
The Subaru then collided head-on with a Chevy Suburban that was heading southbound on Weedpatch Highway.
Eight Injured in Traffic Accident on Weedpatch Highway in Bakersfield
The drivers of the Subaru and the Suburban sustained major injuries and were transported to a local hospital. Six other occupants of the Suburban suffered injuries ranging from minor to moderate.
The names of the injured parties and their conditions were not immediately disclosed.
Traffic was blocked for about an hour and a half due to the crash.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
