Taft, California (May 31, 2020) – The California Highway Patrol has identified Yvette Herrera, 21, of Taft, as the victim who was seriously injured in a DUI car crash on Thursday evening in Taft.

The crash happened at about 5:30 p.m., on May 28, at Wood Street and Lierly Avenue.

As per the officials report, a Chevrolet Cruze was traveling southbound on Lierly Avenue when it allegedly ran a stop sign at Wood Street and crashed into a Ford. The Ford, operated by Herrera, was driving eastbound on Wood Street.

The two vehicles drifted into the front yard of a home in the 500 block of Lierly Avenue, where the Ford became wedged against the front porch of the house.

Following the accident, the first responders extricated Herrera, who was trapped in her vehicle.

Herrera sustained major injuries, including a possible broken pelvis and a fractured femur. She was airlifted to Kern Medical Center for treatment.

The Chevrolet driver fled the scene on foot. He was later arrested at South Tenth and Crystal streets on suspicion of felony DUI and felony hit-and-run causing injury.

An investigation into the accident is underway.
