South Taft, California (May 29, 2020) – A woman was critically injured Thursday evening in an alleged DUI car accident in South Taft, according to California Highway Patrol.

The crash happened a little after 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 28, at the intersection of Wood Street and Lierly Avenue, the CHP said.

According to the CHP, a Chevrolet Cruze was traveling southbound on Lierly Avenue when its driver allegedly ran a red light at Wood Street and struck an eastbound Ford driven by the woman.

The force of the impact sent both vehicles into the front yard of a home in the 500 block of Lierly Avenue.

Woman Airlifted After 2-Vehicle Crash in South Taft Thursday, May 28

Firefighters along with the paramedics responded to the scene and extricated the woman who was trapped in her wrecked vehicle. She was airlifted to Kern Medical with major injuries, including a possible broken pelvis and a fractured femur.

The driver of the Cruze fled on foot but was later arrested a few blocks away. He was booked into jail on suspicion of driving under the influence and hit-and-run, causing injuries.

The accident remains under investigation.
