Bakersfield, California (May 4, 2020) – One person died after three vehicles collided Monday morning in Bakersfield, Kern County, according to a California Highway Patrol report.

The fatal multi-vehicle crash took place on State Route 223 (Highway 223) at South Fairfax Road just after 5:15 a.m.

The accident happened when a Lexus that was traveling at a high rate of speed failed to stop at the intersection. The Lexus was then struck on the driver’s side by a Mini Cooper that was passing through the Bakersfield intersection. 

A third vehicle reportedly broadsided the Mini Cooper in the process.

Due to the impact, the Lexus went off the roadway into a field. 

Fatal Bakersfield Multi-Vehicle Accident on State Route 223 

The Lexus motorist died at the crash site. 

No other person was injured following the accident.

The crash resulted in the closure of the highway for unknown time as police and emergency crews worked to investigate and clear the scene.
