Desmond King Killed in Oakland Pedestrian Crash on Bancroft Avenue

Oakland, California (March 31, 2020) – Desmond King, 29, of Oakland was struck and killed by a vehicle on Sunday night in east Oakland, according to the Alameda County coroner’s bureau.
The crash happened in the area of 5450 Bancroft Avenue at about 6:51 p.m. March 29.
According to the police, King and three other men were standing along the street when a westbound gray 2013 Chevrolet Malibu drifted into the side, struck a parked vehicle and crashed into the pedestrians.

King was pronounced deceased at the scene. The other pedestrians, identified as men aged 50, 45, and 39, were taken to a hospital. One of the patients was critical and the others were stable.
The involved motorist reportedly fled the scene after the crash but was later located and taken into custody. Police said the driver, a 29-year-old Oakland man, was arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run and DUI.
The crash is under investigation.
