Bakersfield, California (March 23, 2020) – A man is fighting for his life at a local hospital in Bakersfield following a traffic collision on Saturday night in Bakersfield, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The major pedestrian crash occurred in the 1600 block of Union Avenue at around 8:13 p.m. Saturday, March 21.

Authorities said that a man was trying to walk across the street when he was struck by a vehicle for reasons yet to be determined.

Major Pedestrian Collision in Bakersfield

An ambulance was sent to the scene to attend to the man who suffered severe injuries due to the collision. The patient was taken to an area hospital where he was listed in a critical condition.

Officials said that the involved driver remained at the scene and was cooperative. Officials did not believe alcohol or drugs to have played a role in the collision.
