Santa Rosa, California (February 4, 2020) – 69-year-old Jesse Esparza of Sonoma has been arrested after a suspected DUI collision Sunday night in the area of Santa Rosa, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The head-on crash happened at about 8:45 p.m. Sunday, February 2, on Montgomery Drive near Spring Lake.
As per the CHP officials, Esparza was heading east on Montgomery Drive in a silver Nissan sedan while at the same time a black Honda sedan was traveling west. Esparza then drifted into oncoming traffic and crashed head-on into the Honda.
Following the accident, the Honda plunged down unto a nearby ravine.

Firefighters along with medical personnel arrived at the scene and freed the Honda driver who was trapped inside the wreckage. The driver was transported to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The patient’s name and their current condition were not immediately provided.
Esparza was unhurt in the collision. Authorities determined that the Sonoma man was driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time. The suspect was later arrested on suspicion of DUI causing injury.
An investigation is underway.
