Male Rider Killed in Head-On Crash on Highway 79 and Anza Road

Temecula, California (January 31, 2020)  Authorities have identified a male rider killed after a motorcycle crash Thursday evening, just outside of Temecula, as a 34-year-old Hemet man.

As per the California Highway Patrol, the fatal crash happened on January 30, near the intersection of Highway 79 and Anza Road.

The Hemet man was reportedly riding a 2016 Harley-Davidson motorcycle southeast on Highway 79 when, for unknown reasons, he drifted into the opposite traffic on a curve. The rider crashed head-on into a 2009 Volvo semi-truck.

Emergency crews arrived at the scene a while after 6:30 p.m. Sadly, the emergency teams declared the Hemet man dead at the crash site. The name of the deceased was not immediately released.

Authorities confirmed that the semi-truck driver did not incur injuries in the collision.

It was not immediately known if drugs or alcohol played a role in the collision.

Highway 79 was closed in both directions as a result of the crash. The roadway was cleared as of 9:45 p.m.

An investigation is ongoing.
