James Radzik Killed, Helen Scheuplein Arrested after Claremont Collision on Towne Avenue near Syracuse Drive

Claremont, California (January 10, 2020) – A man was killed in an auto-pedestrian crash involving a suspected DUI hit-and-run driver early Wednesday morning in Claremont, according to Claremont police.
The incident was reported at about 2:30 a.m. January 8, in the 1600 block of Towne Avenue near Syracuse Drive.

Police said the victim, later identified as James Radzik, 50, of Rancho Cucamonga, was found lying on the pavement. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Police in Pomona located the suspected vehicle and driver in the 500 block of East Foothill Boulevard at about 5:55 p.m. on Thursday.
The suspect, identified as Helen Scheuplein, 67, of Covina, was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, hit-and-run causing death, and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. She was booked into the Claremont Police Department Jail and her bail set at $100,000.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
