Oceanside, California (December 18, 2019) – A man was killed in a crash involving a suspected hit-and-run driver on Tuesday night in Oceanside, according to the Oceanside Police Department.

The crash took place just after 10:15 p.m. December 17, in the area of Douglas Drive and Mission Avenue.

Authorities said a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck was traveling eastbound on Mission Avenue when it failed to stop for a red light and collided with a Ford F-150 pickup heading north on Douglas Drive.

The driver of the Chevrolet then fled the scene eastbound on Mission Avenue and struck a man who was in the crosswalk. The man was dragged nearly 150 feet down the street.

The driver again left the scene traveling on Mission Avenue then got out of the vehicle along with a passenger at Rancho Del Oro and ran on foot.

Man Killed in Oceanside Hit-And-Run Pedestrian Crash

The pedestrian, identified as a 65-year-old man, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Police conducted a search in the area and located the vehicle. The driver was identified as 27-year-old Wesley Stuart. He was arrested and booked into the Vista Detention Facility on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, DUI and hit-and-run. The passenger was also taken into custody and later released.
