Sacramento, California (December 16, 2019) – A woman struck and killed by a vehicle while crossing a street early Sunday morning in South Sacramento, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The fatal pedestrian accident took place just before 3:00 a.m. Sunday, December 15 near Fruiridge Road and Nona Way.

The CHP said the pedestrian, identified as a 41-year-old Sacramento woman, was crossing Fruitridge road outside of a marked crosswalk when she was hit by a vehicle that was traveling northbound on Fruitridge Road toward Highway 99.

Emergency crews responded to the scene and pronounced the woman dead at the scene. Her name has not been disclosed pending notification of family.

The driver of the vehicle involved in the crash, a 24-year-old Sacramento woman, stopped at the scene and cooperated with the investigators.

It is undetermined whether alcohol or drugs were factors in the accident.

Further details regarding the crash were not immediately disclosed.

An investigation into the accident is underway.
