Carmen Hernandez Identified as Victim in Deadly Merced Crash on West Olive Avenue and Austin Avenue

Merced, California (December 11, 2019) – Authorities have identified the woman who was killed Monday afternoon in a traffic accident involving three vehicles in Merced as Carmen Torres Hernandez, 61, of Merced.

The tragic crash took place at around 2:00 p.m. Monday, December  9 at the intersection of West Olive Avenue and Austin Avenue.

Authorities said a white 1994 Toyota Camry, driven by Hernandez, was turning left onto West Olive Avenue from Austin Avenue when for an unknown reason, the Camry was hit by a 2001 Toyota Tundra that was heading eastbound on West Olive Avenue.

A third vehicle was involved in the crash and sustained minor damage.

Medical personnel responded to the scene and tried to treat Hernandez. But she succumbed to her injuries and was declared deceased at the scene.

The condition of the Tundra driver who authorities identified as Dan Gruych, 72, of Merced, was not immediately known. No injuries were reported from the third car.

Alcohol or drugs were not considered factors in the crash.

The accident remains under investigation by Merced Police.
