San Jose, California (December 1, 2019) – Two people died, and five others were injured in a suspected DUI collision that happened early Sunday morning in San Jose, a local news source reported.

A 21-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

As per the article, the California Highway Patrol said the crash took place at about 4:10 a.m. on the Highway 101 north connector ramp to 280/680 Freeway.

Authorities said Esteban Aguilar Jimenez of San Jose was driving a Dodge Charger at high speeds when he tried to overtake a Nissan Rogue and collided with it.

The impact detached the rear tailgate of the Nissan and caused the driver to lose control of the car, traveling across the transition road and hitting a guardrail.

A second passenger in the Nissan was hospitalized at Regional Medical Center with moderate injuries.

Three passengers in the Dodge sustained moderate to minor injuries and were taken to Valley Medical Center. Jimenez complained of pain and was also hospitalized at the same hospital.

Authorities said Jimenez was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and gross vehicular manslaughter. He will be booked in Santa Clara County Jail when he is released from the hospital.

The Dodge acquired major front-end damage, and the Nissan acquired major damage to its rear end and left side.

The collision forced a closure of the road from about 4:45 a.m. to until around 7:50 a.m. as investigators worked the scene.
