Pala Mesa, California (November 30, 2019) – A 73-year-old woman suffered fatal injuries while a man sustained severe injuries on Thursday morning in the area of Pala Mesa, according to a local news source.

The collision occurred at about 10:32 a.m. Thursday,  November 29, on southbound Interstate 15, south of Mission Road.

As per the report, a Ford Mustang spun out and slammed into the median on southbound 15 Freeway at 10:10 a.m.

As responding emergency crews rendered aid to the Mustang driver and his two juvenile passengers, a Ford Crown Victoria lost control and collided with an ambulance at the crash site at 10:32 a.m.

One of the Ford Crown’s passengers, identified only as a 73-year-old woman suffered fatal injuries and was declared dead at the crash site. The driver, a 66-year-old man from Rancho Cucamonga sustained severe injuries and was transported to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido.

The mustang driver, two female juveniles, a California Highway Patrol officer, two firefighters, and other emergency crews complained of pain as a result of the crash and were hospitalized.

Authorities said it was unclear if the rain from ongoing countrywide storms falling during the two collisions played a role on the collision.

The officers did not believe alcohol or drugs to be factors in the collision.

Officials closed three left lanes of southbound Interstate 15 until at about 1:15 p.m.

An investigation is underway.
