Deputy Dakota Palanca Severely Injured in Paramount DUI Pedestrian Accident at Downey Avenue and Alondra Boulevard

Paramount, California (November 26, 2019) – Authorities have identified the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputy who was struck and critically injured by a suspected drunk driver Monday evening in Paramount as Deputy Dakota Palanca, 25.
At around 5:40 p.m. Monday, November 25, Palanca, who works in the Lakewood station, responded to a report of a man acting erratically in the area of Downey Avenue and Alondra Boulevard.
Before Palanca could even get out of her vehicle, the man started attacking her, punching her through the window of the cruiser.
Palanca was able to get out of her car and gave chase to the suspect on foot through a nearby parking lot. As she was running across the intersection, Palanca was struck by a Chevrolet Suburban that was turning onto Downey Avenue.
Deputy Seriously Injured in Hit-and-Run Accident in Paramount
Palanca sustained major injuries and was transported to St. Francis Medical Center, where she was listed in critical condition.
Authorities later located the driver a short distance away and arrested him on suspicion of DUI.
The accident remains under investigation.
