Hanford, California (October 25, 2019) – A Hanford woman was struck and killed by a vehicle late Thursday night in Hanford, according to a local news source.

The pedestrian accident happened at about 10:40 p.m. on Jackson Avenue, just west of 12th Avenue.

The California Highway Patrol said a 36-year-old Hanford man was driving a 2003 GMC Envoy westbound on Jackson Avenue when he swerved to avoid hitting a dog on the roadway and lost control of the vehicle.

The GMC  then struck a 53-year-old Hanford woman while she was standing in the shoulder of the road. The vehicle continued out of control and flipped over in the roadway.

All parties involved in the crash were taken to Adventist Medical Center in Hanford for treatment of unspecified injuries. The woman later succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. Her name has not been released pending notification of family.

The condition of the GMC driver was not immediately available.

Authorities said neither alcohol nor drugs were suspected factors in the crash.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
