Cupertino, California (October 4, 2019) – The pedestrian who was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver Tuesday afternoon in the area of Cupertino has been identified as Lawrence Lupash, 77.

The accident was reported at about 12:52 p.m. Tuesday, October 1 at Rancho San Antonio County Park.

Authorities said Lupash and a second unidentified person were walking along the sidewalk adjacent to Rancho Antonio County Park when for undermined reasons, they were hit by an Audi A5 driven by Mireya Orta, 50, of Santa Clara.

Lupash sustained major injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. The second victim was also transported to the hospital with critical injuries.

Orta did not stop to render aid to the victims and fled the scene. She was later arrested and booked into jail in San Jose.

No further details were immediately available.

The crash remains under investigation.
