Compton, California (October 2, 2019) – Authorities have identified the pedestrian who died after being hit by a vehicle Monday night in Compton as Chancy Hill Jr., 26, of Carson.

The deadly pedestrian accident happened at around 11:30 p.m. Monday, September 30 on Gardena Freeway. Gardena Freeway is also known as 91 Freeway.

Authorities said Chancy Hill Jr. was driving a Mercedes Benz C300 when he collided with a Scion XA near the off-ramp. His vehicle came to a rest facing the wrong way in the carpool lane after the crash.

Hill exited his car and began walking in the eastbound lanes of the Gardena (91) Freeway when he was struck by a 2014 Ford Mustang driven by a 32-year-old Rancho Cucamonga man.

While Hill was lying in the No. 3 lane he was hit by a Mercedes Benz E350 driven by a 47-year-old Corona man.

Hill died at the scene. A 31-year-old Compton woman who was the driver of the Scion was transported to the hospital with moderate injuries.

A stretch of the freeway just west of Alameda Street was shut down for four hours following the crash. As of 3:30 a.m., the road was reopened.

An investigation into the crash is underway.
