Fairfield, California (September 26, 2019) – A 20-year-old Richmond man was killed in a traffic collision that happened early Wednesday morning on 80 Freeway in Fairfield, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The collision transpired at about 12:30 a.m. September 25, on the eastbound lanes of the freeway at Air Base Parkway off-ramp.

According to CHP, a 20-year-old Suisun City man was driving a Honda Civic eastbound on Highway 80 when he crashed into the rear of a tractor-trailer then crossed the traffic lanes and slammed into the center median.

The Richmond man was a passenger in the Honda and was killed in the crash.

The driver of the Honda was treated for minor injuries at a hospital.

The driver of the big rig was unhurt.

Authorities said speed and impairment are suspected to be factors in the crash.

An investigation into the collision is ongoing.
