Woman Killed in Salinas Train Accident near Highway 183 and McFadden Road Wednesday

Salinas, California (September 25, 2019) – A woman was killed Wednesday afternoon in a traffic accident involving a train and a truck near Salinas, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The tragic crash took place shortly after 1:00 p.m. near Highway 183 and McFadden Road, just northwest of Salinas.
CHP said the woman was driving a flatbed truck and had turned from a private dirt road onto the railroad tracks toward Highway 183 when her truck was hit by a Union Pacific train. It was immediately unclear if she had stopped or gotten stuck on the tracks.
The force of the impact dislodged the driver’s cabin and tore off the front tires and their axle.
The woman died in the crash. Her name has not been disclosed pending notification of family.
Authorities said the truck was carrying packaging materials for an ag company.
The crash snarled traffic in the area for at least two hours.
Meanwhile, the accident remains under investigation.
