Sergio Cruz Injured in Fatal Car Accident on Highway 152 in Gilroy
Sergio Cruz Seriously Injured in Gilroy Crash on Highway 152 near Bloomfield Avenue

Santa Clara County, California (September 20, 2019) – Sergio Cruz, 27, of Delhi, has been identified as one of the two people who were seriously injured in a traffic accident that also left one person dead in Gilroy Wednesday morning.
The deadly wreck happened at around 7:57 a.m. Wednesday, September 18 on Highway 152, just east of Bloomfield Avenue and west of Lovers Lane.
According to a report by the California Highway Patrol, a 2000 Ford driven by Phillip Romero, 31, of Fresno, was traveling westbound on Highway 152 at about 60 mph when for an unknown reason, the Ford crossed over the solid double yellow lines and collided head-on with an eastbound 2014 Toyota driven by Marcelino De Jesus-Santiago, 27, of Merced County.
De Jesus-Santiago was pronounced dead at the scene.
Cruz, who was riding as a passenger in the Ford, sustained major injuries and was transported by ground ambulance to San Jose Regional Hospital.
Romero also sustained major injuries and was airlifted to San Jose Regional Hospital.
Authorities closed Highway 152 for four hours while they investigated the accident and cleared the crash site. It’s undetermined if alcohol or drugs were factors in the accident.
