Visalia, CA: Female Bicyclist Dead in DUI Hit-and-Run Collision on Court Street
Woman Killed in Visalia Bicycle Accident on Court Street near the Modoc Ditch Bike Trail; Manuel Mesa Arrested
Visalia, California (September 12, 2019) – A woman died, and a man was arrested after a DUI, hit-and-run bicycle crash that happened Wednesday afternoon in Visalia, a local news source reported.
The crash occurred at around 1:30 p.m. on Court Street at the Modoc Ditch Bike Trail.
As per the article, Visalia police said the 61-year-old woman was riding her bicycle east on the Modoc Ditch Bike Trail and was struck by a Honda Accord as she was crossing Court Street. 40-year-old Manuel Mesa was driving the Honda south on Court Street.
Police said Mesa fled the scene and ran over the victim. She was stuck underneath the car and was dragged for about 200 yards.
The rider was taken to Kaweah Delta Medical Center where she died of her injuries.
Police said the suspect vehicle was later found in the 1500 block of North Turner Street. Mesa was found to have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. He was arrested and booked into the Tulare County Pretrial Facility on suspicion of DUI, causing bodily injury or death, hit-and-run, and homicide.
Authorities are investigating the accident.
