Brenda Begg Seriously Injured in Car Accident on Highway 1 in Santa Barbara County
Brenda Begg ID’d as Person Critically Injured in Highway 1 Accident near Constellation Road

Santa Barbara County, California (July 26, 2019) – The person who was seriously injured Friday morning in a three-car accident that also left one person dead in Santa Barbara County has been identified by authorities as by Brenda Begg, 55, of Lompoc.
The fatal accident, which was reported shortly after 11:00 a.m., happened on Highway 1 near Lompoc and just north of Constellation Road.
Authorities said a 50-year-old Lompoc man was driving a Toyota Corolla southbound in the left-hand lane when he encountered a slower-moving vehicle in front of him and entered the center median in an attempt to pass.
In the process, he clipped the slower-moving vehicle. The impact caused the Corolla to spin out of control and into the northbound lanes, where it collided with a Ford Explorer driven by Begg.
The Corolla then veered off the roadway and plummeted down an embankment, where it burst into flames.
Fatal Car Accident near Lompoc Friday
Emergency crews responded to the scene and extricated Begg who was trapped inside her vehicle. She was then airlifted to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital with major injuries.
The driver of the Toyota was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been disclosed pending notification of family.
The driver of the third vehicle, who was uninjured, stopped at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
The Explorer and the Corolla sustained extensive damage as a result of the collision.
The CHP is investigating the cause of the crash.
