Yanelly Garcia Lobato ID’d as Woman Killed in San Benito County Crash on State Route 156 near State Route 25

San Benito County, California (July 23, 2019) – The woman who was killed early Saturday morning in a two-vehicle crash at a busy intersection in San Benito County has been identified as Yanelly Garcia Lobato, 22, of Gilroy, according to the San Benito County Sheriff’s Office.
The tragic accident happened at around 2:15 a.m. Saturday, July 20 on State Route 156, just west of the intersection with State Route 25.
The California Highway Patrol said a Ford F550 pickup truck driven by a 34-year-old Salinas man, was traveling on eastbound State Route 156.
As the pickup approached the intersection of State Route 25, the driver failed to stop at a stop sign and hit a 2001 Ford Crown Victoria driven by a 48-year-old man.
Police said the Crown Victoria was heading northbound on State Route 25 when the crash occurred. The driver had a green light at the intersection of State Route 25 and State Route 156. After the pickup driver ran a red light, the vehicle collided with the Crown Victoria, according to the police.
As a result of the collision, the Crown Victoria spun out of control until the right front quarter panel of the vehicle struck a signal light.
Woman Killed in San Benito County Crash Identified
According to the CHP, Lobato, who was a passenger in the Crown Victoria, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
The driver of the Crown Victoria and another female passenger were transported to a hospital with major injuries. According to the police, a total of six people, including the driver, were traveling in the Crown Victoria. All were from Gilroy.
The pickup driver sustained minor injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
