Turlock, California (July 20, 2021) – A man was arrested following a traffic crash that left another person with major injuries in Turlock early Tuesday morning, according to California Highway Patrol.

The incident occurred at around 1:19 a.m. on Highway 99 near Collier Road.

A 25-year-old Manteca man was driving a 2021 Dodge Ram truck with a trailer on southbound Highway 99 when he pulled to the side of the highway to take a look at the trailer hitch.

Shortly after, a 2006 Honda Accord slammed into the back of the stopped vehicle, pinning the Dodge’s driver between the Dodge and the trailer.

The driver of the Dodge was airlifted to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto with serious injuries.

The driver of the Honda reportedly fled on foot but was located in a nearby grassy area. The driver, identified as Alexis Ramirez, 23, of Turlock, was arrested on charges of DUI causing injury and hit-and-run.

Ramirez was also hospitalized with minor injuries while his passenger, Seth Lemmons, 24, of Turlock, complained of pain but declined treatment.

The crash is under investigation.
