Ma Duarte Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash on Highway 41 in Madera County
Ma Duarte ID’d as Driver Killed in Highway 41 Head-On Crash near O’Neals in Madera County
Madera County, California (January 11, 2019) – The driver who was killed Thursday morning in a two-vehicle collision in Madera County has been identified as Ma Duarte, 44, of Madera, according to the California Highway Patrol
The tragic accident, which was reported shortly after 7:00 a.m. Thursday, January 10, happened on Highway 41, just south of Yosemite Lakes and north of Road 200.
The CHP said Duarte was driving a 2008 Chevrolet northbound on Highway 41 at approximately 50 mph when traffic in front of her started to slow.
Duarte then braked but lost control of her vehicle, which skidded into the southbound lane, where the right side of the Chevy struck the front of a 2017 Ford operated by Amy Mecchi, 35, of Coarsegold.
The force of the impact caused the Chevy to flip over and come to a stop in the southbound lane.
According to the CHP, Duarte, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
Mecchi and her 16-year-old passenger, Ella Vermeulen of Coarsegold, sustained minor and moderate injuries, respectively and were transported to Valley Children’s Hospital.
The crash caused the closure of both northbound and southbound lanes of Highway 41 while the CHP investigated the collision. As of 11:00 a.m., the road was reopened.
The crash remains under investigation.
